Family and Preventative Eye Care

Eye Care For All Ages

Comprehensive routine eye exams ensure that you and your family members have healthy vision. It's important to have an eye exam annually, and we see patients of all ages, from infants to those with age-related eye problems.

If you have never had an exam, if it has been a long time since you visited an eye care provider, or if you simply notice changes in your vision, it is probably time to schedule an appointment. Adults should continue to have their eyes examined annually to keep prescriptions current and to check for early signs of various eye diseases and issues.

At Mid-Michigan Eye Care, we will perform a number of tests that check for certain conditions such as amblyopia and strabismus, but also for other diseases and systemic conditions that can affect vision. Tests will be conducted on each eye’s internal and external structures to evaluate the retina, optic nerve, muscles, cornea, blood vessels, pupil, lens, iris, conjunctiva, eyelid and eyelashes.

Even if you think you have perfect vision, an annual eye exam is one of the best things you can do to protect the overall health and wellness of yourself and your loved ones. So don’t put it off any longer; call to schedule an eye exam today!

Importance of Regular Eye Care

Although it may seem unrelated, many people learn of serious health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol from an eye exam.

When you visit us for a comprehensive eye exam, our doctors will evaluate the health and condition of the blood vessels in your retina, which are in turn a good predictor of the health of your blood vessels throughout your entire body.

As mentioned before, we suggest an annual eye exam, especially for those with diabetes or people who have more serious health or eye problems. If you feel that it has been too long without an eye exam or you are hoping to keep up with your eye care, we ask that you reach out to us for an eye exam soon.

The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends visiting your eye care professional on the following schedule (or more often if risk factors exist). People who currently wear contacts should have an exam each year.

Age Group / Frequency:

6 months - 18 years: First visit at 6 months, second at 3 years old and annually after starting school

18 - 40 years: Every 2-3 years

41 - 60 years: Every 2 years

60 years+: Every year
